There is one mark on the trigger guard, otherwise there is no thinning at the muzzle, no drag line and the case colors are bright. There is one surface mark on the left side of the frame. at the hammer screw. The Screw heads are sharp, almost unturned. The markings are crisp. Overall, this gun rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions as designed. the springs are strong, the timing is great and the lock up is about perfect.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This gun comes in a hard wood case, with a placard that reads: "Colt / single Action Army / 357 Mag. / Serial No. SA35534 / Donald H. Mason". The exterior of the box is quite good, with only insignificant marks. There are some tears to the inside foam insert, though it remains complete.

Our Assessment: Colt quietly discontinued production of the 2nd Generation Single Action Army (SAA) in 1974, much to the dismay of cowboys and shooters everywhere. Few shooters outside the firearms industry had heard a word about it. The good news was Colt was bringing the SAA back again in a 3rd Generation. Changes were made but the basic SAA was the same. One new change was a pressed-in cylinder pin bushing instead of the removable ones used in 1st and 2nd Generation cylinders. Also the ratchet at the rear of the cylinders was re-shaped, which also necessitated a different shape on the rotating hand. There is no more American gun than the SAA, and no nicer SAA than this one – Good Luck.
