Antonio Zoli Remington Model 1863 Zouave .58 cal.

Antonio Zoli Replica Remington Model 1863 Zouave .58 cal. Percussion Rifle

This auction is for a Antonio Zoli Replica Remington Model 1863 “Zouave” .58 cal. Percussion Rifle (33” barrel, 1 : 48 twist). This rifle was manufactured by Antonio Zoli & Co. Bresica, Italy. It has brass barrel bands, nose cap, trigger guard, butt plate & patch box. The barrel is blued and the hammer & lock plate are case color. The stock is walnut, medium brown color with a varnish type finish. Overall condition is very good. The stock has some dings, dents and bruises and there is a chip on the left side of the tang and a chip at the rear of the tang (see photos). There are some chips out of the varnish finish around the butt plate. The bore is excellent. The blued barrel has a few minor scratches and retains ~98% of original finish with a little thinning at the muzzle & some BP corrosion spots about the nipple area. The brass needs polish. The original rear sight has been replaced with a Marbles Buckhorn sight. This rifle was not used in reenactments, it was used as a hunting rifle during black powder Elk season in Colorado and several elk were taken with it. OAL = 49”, Barrel = 33”, Reach = 14”, Weight ~9 ½ lbs. Replicas of the Remington 1863 “Zouave” are still made today by several makers and they sell for over $700.00.

ZOLI History:

The history of the ZOLI family blends with the history of the Valtrompia region in Italy and its gunmaking tradition. Records show ZOLI ancestors building locks back in 1490 and complete firearms not long after that. Giovanni Zoli signed a flint lock pistol around 1850. Zoli Antonio s.r.l. as it is today was founded immediately after World War II by Antonio Zoli. The founder, moved by that restless entrepreneurship typical of the Brescia region, started a business which would have made his own name and company brand famous throughout the world. In the early 60s the ZOLI brand was known and appreciated in every market not only for the quality but also the uniqueness of the guns produced which could be told apart from the most traditional Italian products available at the time. In this period ZOLI was the first company in the world to manufacture replica black powder guns and create a completely new market. That stopped in the late 70s after over 200,000 units had been produced mainly for the American market. The Zouave, Mississippi, J.P. Murray, Duck, Harper’s Ferry and Sharps were the most successful products reminiscent of the American Civil War era. BEFORE YOU ASK WHAT THE RESERVE IS, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING…

RESERVE AUCTIONS:

We do not disclose the Reserve on our “RESERVE AUCTIONS” because doing so defeats the purpose of the auction. Disclosing makes it a “Sale”, not an auction, much like a classified listing. Most of the firearms we offer at auction are on consignment with us from one of our clients. Our commitment to our clients is to obtain the highest fair market price possible for their firearms. Thus, we prefer the Reserve Auction and the “HAGGLE” feature offered by Auction Arms. About 50% of our sales are completed via the Haggle. In a Reserve auction if the high bidder does not reach the reserve buy to end the auction the high bidder or the seller may institute what Auction Arms calls a Haggle a one-on-one exchange between buyer and seller to try and come to a mutual agreement on a price. If you are not familiar with the Haggle process, click on Auction Arms “Help & Info” for complete details. For those items that are not on consignment we usually offer a convenient “Buy-It-Now” price.

We are GOLDEN BEAR SERVICES, INC., a Federally Licensed Firearms Dealer in the Denver Metro area. We market exclusively on Auction Arms (since 02-23-1999) and our feedback exceeds 1000 positives. We list on our auctions a variety of offerings including firearms, ammunition, reloading tools & supplies and other accessories we pick up from clients who are interested in liquidating their firearms collections. We are also stocking dealers for a variety of “Mil Spec” manufacturers (such as Rock River & STAG) of quality AR15 & AR10 firearms and accessories including Uppers, Lowers, Parts Kits, barrels, stocks, mags, complete firearms and anything else we think you might be interested in.
