Our Assessment: There is an interesting story to this rifle. A man named Divitiis convinced the Uruguayan government to re-barrel their Remington Rolling blocks in France in the 6.5 Dardereau caliber. Divitiis was a bit of a charlatan and got the Uruguayan Government to let him re-barrel their 1871 Mauser rifles in France first and then tried again with Remington Rolling Blocks. Apparently the 1871 Mausers were of poor quality because of the ammunition and after some of these rolling blocks were manufactured the “agreement” was cancelled. IN ANY CASE this is a rare rolling block with some interesting history. If you are a rolling block collector this is a a rare find! Please see "The All New Collectors Guide to Military Remington Rolling Block Rifles of the World", by George Layman for more details. . http://www.littlegun.info/arme%20francaise/artisans%20s%20z/a%20soc%20fr%20armes%20port%20gb.htm
