Markings: The early Brazilian crest is present on the receiver ring. The left side of the receiver is marked “J3257”, and “Estados Unidos Do Brazil / Fab.Nat,Armes Herstal 1894”. There is an “N” in a square below the serial number. The trigger guard is marked “F2193 / a”, and the floorplate is marked “59 / a”. There is “IO” on the back of the safety.
Barrel Length: 29”
Sights / Optics: The rifle is mounted with a blade in a raised dovetail slot front sight and a ladder rear sight missing the slider.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are military dark smooth wood. There are many slashes, gouges dings and mars but no cracks. The LOP measures approx. 13 1/8”. The stocks rate in about Fair overall condition.
Type of Finish: Blue
Finish Originality: The exposed barrel portion looks reblued, the remainder looks original.
Bore Condition: The bore is dull and the rifling is shallow. There is pitting and erosion the length of the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 40% of its metal finish on the barrel and 0% finish on the receiver. The receiver is mottled gray brown with surface erosion. The barrel is mostly dark blue with pitting visible under the blue on the left side at the muzzle. This looks like an old re-blue and there is mild beginning surface erosion present. The Screw heads are sharp and undamaged. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fair condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle.

Our Assessment: This is an early Brazilian Mauser with the early Brazilian crest. Please see page 37 of “The Standard Catalog of Military Rifles” by Ned Schwing for more information. This is an example of a rarely encountered Mauser and should add to any Mauser collection.
