Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked, “Sturm, Ruger, & Co., Inc. / Southport, Conn., USA”. The right side of the barrel is markeed, “.357 Magnum Cal.” The right side of the frame is marked, “Ruger Security-Six” followed by the Ruger rollmark. The bottom of the grip frame is stamped “150-34469.”

Barrel Length: 6 inches.

Sights / Optics: This revolver is mounted with a serrated ramp front sight with a Ruger windage-and-elevation adjustable rear sight.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are original Ruger wood grips with diamond-pattern checkering, and inlaid Ruger medallions in each panel. There is a small depression in the right rear grip. The checkering is sharp. The grips rate in about Very Good overall condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 95% of its metal finish. There is a modest drag line around the cylinder. There is a tiny nick in the finish on the left side of the frame just above the trigger guard; there is another tiny blemish on the right side of the frame just above the cylinder. There are a few tiny marks under the barrel, and a slight blemish just above the ejector rod housing. These may not be visible in the accompanying pictures. One chamber has a loss of finish and a nick and a "V" shaped "cut" against the cylinder wall at the front. We don't have a clue what caused this. That same chamber shows a depression in the metal on the front surface of the cylinder. This damage mostly likely does not hinder the integrity of the cylinder.The Screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly; the cylinder locks up tightly, and the trigger correctly drops the hammer in single and double action modes. We have not fired this revolver.

Our Assessment: The Ruger Security Six is one of the guns that helped put Ruger on the map as a serious firearms manufacturer. Robust, dependable, and accurate, this revolver remains well-liked and respected, and highly sought after in the second-hand market. It is a medium framed revolver, and features solid, American-made, industrial grade parts. It’s a winner, and, chambered in the incredibly effective and hard-hitting .357 Magnum caliber, yet capable of shooting milder .38 Special loads. This revolver will make a durable lifetime companion.
