Seller's Description

Guns For Sale - Smith & Wesson, S&W .44 Magnum -- Model 629-2E Stainless 3 Double Action Revolver

LSB#: 120430CB06

Make: Smith and Wesson

Model: Model 629-2E

Serial Number: BEE4902

Year of Manufacture: 1989?

Caliber: .44 Special/.44 Magnum

Action Type: Single Action and Double Action Swing Out Cylinder Revolver

Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON”. The yoke cut is marked “BEE4902 / M629-2E”. The yoke is marked “H / 683”. There is a S&W logo on the left side of the frame. The underside of the grip frame is marked “BEE4902” and the left side of the grip frame is marked “A20 / 7868”. The right side of the grip frame is marked “7828”. The right side of the frame has the four line “Marcas Registradas” address and the right side of the barrel is marked “44 MAGNUM”.

Barrel Length: 3” Full Lug

Sights / Optics: This revolver is mounted with a pinned front blade that has a white circle around what was a tritium lamp. There is an S&W micrometer click adjustable rear sight that has a replacement square notch blade that also has white circles around what were tritium lamps. The lamps no longer glow.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered black rubber Pachmayr Compac with brass colored medallions. The grips are missing a small portion of the checkering at the front bottom of the left side panel. The grips rate in about Fair overall condition.

Type of Finish: Stainless Steel

Finish Originality: All Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion and the muzzle crown is good. This barrel been Magna-Ported and has a full length underlug.

Overall Condition: This gun retains about 95% of its metal finish. There are very light drag marks on the unfluted cylinder and there are some marks on the bottom of the trigger guard. The screw heads are sharp and show some use, although clearly the strain screw has been adjusted and there is a mark on the sideplate by the front screw . The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver rates in about Fine to Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly in both single action and double action. We have not fired this revolver. It is unclear whether the magna porting was done at the factory or was done later. This revolver has serrations on the front of the grip frame, a checkered ½” wide hammer and a smooth 3/8” wide trigger.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None

Our Assessment: This is a S&W Model 629-2E. It has been suggested in the online S&W Forum that the “E” stands for Endurance, hence, for instance the unfluted, beefy cylinder. It appears that this revolver may have been made at the factory unported, and either returned for porting or ported elsewhere. The sights have been modified, but should be capable of being restored to factory original if desired. It seems that this may be a gun that was “carried often and shot little”. If you are looking for a unique and formidable carry gun, your search is over.

CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This revolver is not on the California “roster of handguns certified for sale”, and can only be transferred to a California resident as a private party transaction (PPT) at our shop in Simi Valley. This does not apply to out of state buyers.
