Seller's Description

Guns For Sale - Harrington & Richardson, H&R -- Model 999 Sportsman .22 LR Single Action Revolver

LSB#: 120531ER01

Make: Harrington and Richardson

Model: 999 Sportsman Single Action

Serial Number: S17720

Year of Manufacture: 1932-1951. This is likely a pre-WWII pistol.

Caliber: .22 Long Rifle

Action Type: Top Break, 9-shot, Single Action Revolver

Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “H.& R. “Sportsman” / Single Action”, the right side of the barrel is marked “22 Long Rifle CTG. “, the top of the barrel is marked “Harrington & Richardson Arms Co. / Worcester. Mass. U.S.A.”. The serial number is found on the front grip strap. The cylinder is marked “720” on both pieces, visible from the rear.

Barrel Length: 6”

Sights / Optics: This revolver is mounted with a fixed blade front sight and a windage adjustable rear sight.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are smooth inlaid wood. These may have been the original grips which have since been very professionally inlaid on both sides and the bottom. Please see our photos. There are a few dings and gouges on the left side but no chips or cracks. The grips rate in about Very Good overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: All Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no apparent erosion.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 65% of its metal finish. The right side of the frame shows surface erosion above the trigger guard and scattered spots of pinprick erosion on the left side. The barrel shows wear at the muzzle and scattered erosion on the barrel and cylinder. There is some yellow dried grease on the hammer and trigger. The Screw heads are sharp and undamaged. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver rates in about Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this revolver.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: A HEISER 416 holster is provided. This holster is marked “HR 6 / Sport” above the “H.Heiser Maker Denver Colo.” makers mark and “416” below. The holster is intact, showing wear and scuffs but no tears or losses. The snap is marked “Heiser Denver”.

Our Assessment: This is the classic fisherman's box and carry gun. A reasonable quality cheap to shoot 9-shot .22 revolver. Although marked .22 Long Rifle this revolver will accommodate all the .22's except magnums. Single action makes it safe to teach with. This should make a fun plinker, and anyone familiar with this series of 9-shot H&R revolvers probably knows their great reputation. Oh yeah, and the original Heiser marked holster is probably worth about as much as the revolver. A nice combination.

CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This C&R revolver can be transferred in California and sold as a private party transaction (PPT) at our shop in Simi Valley. This does not apply to out of state buyers.
