Markings: The barrel near the muzzle is marked “K98 German 8MM / CAI St Alb VT”. The left side of the barrel is marked with an eagle over globe and “$014”. The numbers “7,9” are found on the top ahead of the receiver ring. The right side of the barrel has three waffenampts eagle over “214”. The left side of the receiver ring is marked “X / 4014 / R” and waffenampt eagle holding globe, and the receiver side is marked “Mod.98”. The top of the receiver ring is marked “237” and “1939”. The right side of the receiver ring is marked with three waffenampt eagles over “214”. The end cap at the bayonet lug is marked eagle over “655” and on the opposite side “85”. The left side of the front barrel band is marked “5045”. The bolt is marked “4014” in electric pencil, “2201” on the housing, “930” on the safety and “8553” on the back of the firing pin. The floorplate is marked with an eagle over “26”, and the numbers “2699”. The trigger guard ahead of the floorplate is marked “0770”. There are a few other scattered waffenampts. The left side of the buttstock is marked “4014”.

Sights / Optics: This rifle is mounted with a blade in a raised dovetail slot front sight, and a slide adjustable rear sight.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are cleaned military smooth wood. There are relatively few nicks sand scratches. The LOP measures approx. 13 1/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the metal buttplate. The stocks rate in about Very Good to Fine overall condition.

Finish Originality: Refinished
Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp and deep. There is mild erosion in the grooves. This is a very shootable bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its re-finished metal. The balance of the finish shows just slight wear with a few marks. The Screw heads are sharp and undamaged. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle.

Our Assessment: This is a very nice presentation of the famous German K98. It has been made to look as original and the re-blue is very nice. there has obviously been little use since restoration. This is the perfect re-enactor/collector rifle.
