Here is a nice loaded example of Dr. Maynard’s .50-50 military cartridge made on his 1865 patent and used during the Civil War. Rounds made under this patent have a large thin rim and a small hole in the center of the base to allow the flame from a percussion cap to enter the cartridge to fire it. The military loading had a lighter bullet for increased range. The bullet has the typical nick in it from being in the military package of 10 rounds where the rim of the round next to it got pressed in. Maynard rounds follow their own unique evolution and are getting quite hard to find these days. This is a nice clean specimen to add to your collection of early American military cartridges.
