NO RESERVE!! Here's an interesting U.S. Military weapon. This is a Springfield Armory Model 1884 "Trapdoor" Cadet Rifle that comes with a Springfield Research letter and documentation placing this rifle at the University of North Dakota in the year 1900. At the end of the 19th century the U.S. Government supplied Federally funded schools and universities with military items intended for use by the student cadets in drills and training. In the late 1800's, the rifles typically "on loan" to a University were the Trapdoor Cadet Rifle. These weapons were "medium sized"...longer barreled than the Carbine but smaller than the full sized infantry rifle. This Cadet Rifle has a 29-1/2" barrel and is chambered for the .45-70 Government cartridge. This rifle was manufactured in mid-1890 and still has a very good cartouche visible on the stock. Overall condition is good but the weapon does show wear. The metal finish is thin and there are some vise marks on the barrel below the rear sight. The trigger guard is of the earlier style 2-piece type. The stock shows normal wear and tear plus one chip from the toe of the butt, ahead of the buttplate. The mechanics appear to be in good working order. The bore is in fine shape, near excellent, with sharp bright rifling with some slight fine pitting mid-bore...quite shootable. This rifle comes with the Springfield Research letter and a copy of the historical provenance, a 23-page inspection report of the University's military stores which lists the rifle by serial number. This report makes interesting reading as it gives insight into the various military related activities ongoing at the University at the turn of the century. The two period photos were sourced on-line and are not included with the documentation. A neat find, documented Cadet Rifles are fairly scarce!

Buyer pays $25.00 shipping. This is an antique rifle and as such, no FFL is required for transfer and in most areas it can be shipped directly to the winning bidder. There are exceptions (New Jersey, New York City) where an FFL transfer may still be required. Please know your local laws before bidding. Bidder must be a minimum of 21 years old and willing to provide proof of age with payment.

SORRY, BUT I CANNOT END ANY AUCTION EARLY…… PLEASE DON'T ASK!
