These may not even be visible in the accompanying photos. The Screw heads are sharp, those on the top and right side of the receiver seemingly unturned. The markings are clear. Overall, this gun rates in about Very good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions easily and correctly, the lever moves smoothly, and the trigger trips the hammer. We have not test-fired this black-powder-era gun.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None
Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 1887 was the first truly successful repeating shotgun. Its unique lever-action design was chosen by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company, and designed by the legendary designer, John Moses Browning. To find an original, first year production gun of this quality, in this condition, is a rare opportunity. This one is a beauty. The wood shows varnish, some of the screws still show original bluing, and the whole firearm itself is a remarkable engineering accomplishment. The bore shows use with black powder, but it functions beautifully, looks terrific, and is a genuine artifact of the American West. This will make a fine addition to the collection of any discriminating Winchester collector of fine antique firearms, or aficionados of the American West.
CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This shotgun is classified as an antique and can be sold to anyone 18 years of age.
