The balance of the finish shows wear on the bolt surfaces, thinning at the muzzle and the trigger guard, and good even color on the receiver. The markings are clear. Overall, this gun rates in about Good condition, except the bore.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. Our gauges indicates throat depth at “5” and for the bore at the muzzle our gauge drops all of the way in. Shooting this rifle accurately probably requires a new barrel. We did not fire this rifle.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Three of the oil/grease tubes are contained in the buttstock but there is no cleaning rod. A sling is also provided.
Our Assessment: This is the standard battle rifle of WWII. It is known for its reliability and toughness in combat. This one needs a new barrel, which is available. If you are a re-enactor and don’t want to take a chance damaging your pristine M1, get this one and run around the field with it. If you want to add an authentic M1 Garand to your collection OK here is one. Good luck with your bidding.
