US M9 Phrobis Bayonet. 4th Generation model with the 4 line maker marking 'M9, Phrobis III, U.S.A., Pat. Pending' which were produced about 1989-1991. Dupont Zytel handle with Phrobis marked crossguard with bottle cap openers. Fullered blade has a sawback and can be used as a wire-cutter. Dupont Zytel scabbard with wire-cutter attachment with screw driver end. Comes with bayonet, scabbard, Bianchi belt fastener, quick-release Fastex buckle, canvas pouch & also includes a mag pocket for pistol clip on front and break-away belt suspension at top of scabbard. Here is some history on this item as there are usually quite a few questions on this scares item. Around the time of the Buck/Phrobis falling out, Mickey Finn incorporated under the name Phrobis Int'l. He had been working on some improved designs for the M9 bayonets but no longer had Buck to manufacture the blades and component parts. He then turned to the well-known firm of Marto in Spain. Marto manufactured the blades for Phrobis Int'l and due to the import laws the blades had to be marked with the country of origin. The patent information was also added to the right ricasso. Marto was permitted to manufacture the M9 bayonet with their name on the blade strictly for commercial sales in Europe. These are considered fairly rare among M9 Collectors The blade edge is in excellent condition and no sign of post-production sharpening; however there is some rubbing on one side from taking in/out of the scabbard. Scabbard, webbing and sharpening stone are in new condition. Buttons look brand new with little to no rubbing from use. The bayonet pictured is the bayonet you will receive.
