Seller's Description

Guns For Sale - Colts Patents Arms Manufacturing Company -- Police Cop and Thug Colt Fine $5200 est

- Serial no. 17313, 38 CF cal., 4 1/2 inch round bbl., nickel finish, hard rubber grips. Very Fine Etched Panel Colt New Police Cop and Thug Revolver with Factory Letter Manufactured in 1884, this was the final revolver in the New Line series. Fixed front sight on a barrel with the two line Hartford address on top and the acid etched panel ("NEW POLICE 38") on the left side. The left side of the frame is marked "38 CAL" and the serial number appears on the butt. Smooth niter blue spur trigger and checkered hammer (with polished sides), niter blue screws, cylinder pin and release, "bulls eye" style ejector rod head and fitted with black checkered hard rubber grips embossed with the "cop and thug" on the bottoms and "COLT" in an oval at the tops. The accompanying factory letter verifies the serial number, "38/c" caliber, barrel length, nickel finish, hard rubber grips and that it was shipped as 1 of 58 to Hartley & Graham, New York, New York on April 24, 1890. CONDITION: Very fine. The revolver retains 90% plus original nickel finish with some wear and flaking on the ejector rod housing and some minor flaking on the front and rear edge of the cylinder, and on the edge of the frame ahead of the cylinder. Strong traces of the original bright niter blue remain on the screw heads, while the hammer retains most of the bright niter blue. The grips are excellent showing little wear with a couple of minor dings and crisp checkering. The markings remain crisp and clear. There is some slight play in the cylinder in the cocked and decocked positions, otherwise the action is very good.
