Seller's Description

Guns For Sale - Argentine Mauser Modelo 1891 -- Cal. 7.65 x 53MM Bolt Action Rifle - 1899 C&R OK

LSB#: 120412ML05

Make: Mauser/ Berlin

Model: 1891

Serial Number: T6761

Year of Manufacture: 1899

Caliber: 7.65x53 Argentine

Action Type: Bolt Action, Internal Magazine

Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked “Mauser Modelo Argentino 1891 / Deutsche Waffen Und – Munitionsfabriken / Berlin”, and “FN” at the bolt release. The right side of the receive ring and barrel are marked “T6761”. There is a full crest on the top of the receiver ring. There are scattered proof marks on the receiver and bolt but there are no visible numbers on the bolt. There is a very faint marking on the bottom of the magazine well that looks like “C 770”.

Barrel Length: 29 ½”

Sights / Optics: This rifle is mounted with standard military sights, a blade front sight in a dovetail slot and a sliding bar rear ladder sight.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are nicely grained wood. The stocks were likely sanded and cleaned at one time. The buttstock wood is just shy of the butt plate all around. There are a few scattered surface scratches that are smooth (from refinishing) and two places to point out, 1) on the forend left side at the front barrel band there is a dark area and some roughness on both sides, and 2) at the bottom of the buttstock at the buttplate there are a few gouges that have been sanded over. The LOP measures approx. 13 ½” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stocks rate in about Very Good overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Looks Original

Bore Condition: The bore is gray and the rifling is sharp and deep. There is the usual gray seen in the flats of military rifling but no apparent erosion.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 70% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows scattered surface rust on the barrel at the front barrel band. There is some minor wear on the top of the receiver and some thinning on the second barrel band and the magazine well. The Screw heads are sharp and undamaged. The markings are clear except for the bottom of the magazine well. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: A U.S. Military canvas sling is provided.

Our Assessment: This model is generally referred to as the best of the K98 style Mausers… This one has good wood, good bore and a good stock. This is a collector quality rifle and will also make a great shooter.

CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This rifle can be transferred in California and is C&R eligible.
