There are a few scattered surface scratches that are smooth (from refinishing) and two places to point out, 1) on the forend left side at the front barrel band there is a dark area and some roughness on both sides, and 2) at the bottom of the buttstock at the buttplate there are a few gouges that have been sanded over. The LOP measures approx. 13 ½” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stocks rate in about Very Good overall condition.
Type of Finish: Blue
Finish Originality: Looks Original
Bore Condition: The bore is gray and the rifling is sharp and deep. There is the usual gray seen in the flats of military rifling but no apparent erosion.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 70% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows scattered surface rust on the barrel at the front barrel band. There is some minor wear on the top of the receiver and some thinning on the second barrel band and the magazine well. The Screw heads are sharp and undamaged. The markings are clear except for the bottom of the magazine well. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: A U.S. Military canvas sling is provided.
Our Assessment: This model is generally referred to as the best of the K98 style Mausers… This one has good wood, good bore and a good stock. This is a collector quality rifle and will also make a great shooter.
