Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are one piece plain wood. There are many scratches and marks throughout but no visible cracks. Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is a little shallow (as is seen frequently on the older .22’s). There is no apparent erosion.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 75% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows mottling and beginning surface erosion all around the barrel, along with some minor nicks and scratches. The bolt has some discoloration and a few scratches. The Screw heads are sharp showing minor disfiguration. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The manual cocker is a little sluggish probably from old oil and lack of use – this will improve. We did not fire this rifle .
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None
Our Assessment: This is the classic Winchester “Boys Rifle”, produced from 1904 through the early 1930’s. This one has the crescent buttplate, seen of the 1904-1910 rifles. The bore is good and this rifle should be fun to shoot. As a single shot bolt action rifle, with a separate cocking knob, it is inherently safe. A collector and a shooter in one here - Enjoy!
CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This rifle can be transferred in California and is C&R eligible.
