Seller's Description

GEN. ULYSSES S. GRANT LIMITED EDITION KNIFE

This is a beautiful Limited Edition knife offered about 16 years ago by the Franklin Mint from the set of six(6) "Official Civil War Collector Knives" series featuring Union Gen. Ulysses S. Grant. It is in pristine condition! The ricasso of the blade is stamped with "c. FM", which is the Franklin Mint logo. It is contained within the original black padded and zippered case with a black velvet lining in which it was originally shipped. The case bears the "Franklin Mint Collector Knives" logo. The knife is 4 1/4" in length, with a single folding lockback stainless steel blade, which is 3 1/4" in length. The theme of this knife is the commemoration of Gen. Grants' victory at the Seige of Vicksburg, MS, (May 19, 1863- July 4, 1863) when Confederate forces finally surrendered the city to him on July 4, 1863. This victory led to Gen. Grant being promoted by President Lincoln to the leadership of all Union armies during the War Between The States. This theme is beautifully etched on the blade of the knife. The 24 karat gold plated oval shaped pommel decoration bears the initials "US". This gorgeous custom designed knife features a full color insert illustration of Gen. Grant set within the enameled dark blue pewter grip, the outline of which is plated with 24 karat gold. The enameled Union flag flies proudly above Gen. Grant. The issuance of this great commemorative limited edition Gen. "U. S." Grant knife was authorized by the Civil War Library and Museum. A 24 karat gold plated logo for "Franklin Mint Collector Knives" is located on the back grip. This knife is a true work of art! This knife has not been offered for sale for many years now, and is very difficult to locate on the secondary market, where it retails for $75.00 on up in Mint condition. This knife is a great tribute to the most famous general produced by the Union, a man revered throughout the North, Gen. "U. S." Grant. This is truly a fabulous knife for the collector of "things Northern". If you are of Union heritage, you will be proud to own and display this knife in tribute to your ancestors and to Gen. Grant. $8.00 S&H. Bank check, postal money order or personal check. (must clear) Add 3% to total amount due for credit card use through PayPal. Payment due within seven(7) calendar days of end of auction.
