The markings are clear. Overall, this gun rates in about Fair condition.

Our Assessment: The Savage Model 99 is a very unique rifle! The gun features a number of innovative features; a rotary magazine, which allows for the use of aerodynamically-efficient spitzer bullets, a round counter visible from the left side of the receiver, a cocking indicator, a hammerless design, which makes for an extremely short lock time, and ease of handling in brushy conditions; it is a remarkable technological achievement. It was once considered a viable candidate as a US military battle rifle!
This is an early rifle. Its serial number suggests 1899 / 1900 but the barrel has a patent date showing 1909. We cant explain the difference. According to the Savage 99 website, there are many instances of “out of sequence” production. In any case, this is a nice old Savage for your collection that is still in good working order.
CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This rifle can be transferred in California.
