I believe the grips, which have turned in color, may even be Genuine Mother of Pearl. This is a Navy Arms 1858 Remington that was Manufactured, and Professionally Hand Engraved by Uberti Artisans at the Uberti Factory in 1963. Phenomenal Hand Engraving with Real Gold Inlays. This is the Highest Level of Hand Engraving that the Remington was ever offered in. The entire gun is engraved, or fully engraved. It has the Steel Frame, Blued Cylinder and Barrel, and Gold Accents on both the Cylinder and Barrel, Pearl Grips. Pearl grips would cost a few hundred today easily. The gun is forty-nine years old, the Steel and Blue are both in Excellent Condition. The gun appears unfired, there is a slight cylinder ring from slight handling use, it is not even full - all around. There is a small crack in the Pearl Grips, and there are also a couple of very slight freckling spots on the cylinder face and at the tip of the hammer. They are so, so slight, they are hardly noticeable and can be touched up blued, or buffed out, with non-abrasive Fltz Polish, if even that. I assure you, I am a perfectionist, this is just from storage, since the rest of the gun is in immaculate conditon, and I only mention it, because I prefer to be totally honest when dealing with any buyers. Most people would not even mention it, and just send it out. When I bought it, I was told it was unfired, and I believe it. I also know that I have never fired it. There are a lot of options with these Remingtons. Not that you would need to, but you can purchase additional cylinders, or even a cartridge cylinder that you can just pop in and out, maybe even some custom gunfighter grips. Cartridge Cylinders take the .45 Long Colt Cartridge, non-corrosive powder, and they get up to about 950 FPS Velocity, and that's not too bad for a Cowboy Load. I know I wouldn't want to get hit by one! That's what makes these BlackPowder Guns a Blast, the options are there and you do what works for you. The start price is unheard of, for a Low Serial Number below SN:100 - Digit Gun of this Caliber, and Fully Hand Engraved for $725.00. Just for an example, in reality, it would probably cost between $1,500 - $2,000 just to send in a gun and have it fully engraved and gold inlayed to this detail nowadays, and that would not include the price of the gun. I am familiar with the prices qualified and competent engravers charge, and like everyone else, they can charge a handsome fee for their time, no doubt. A brand new Uberti stock blued model will run at least $300-$325 today, and this gun is worth well over the price of a stock blued model - three times as much, at least, there's no comparison. It's like comparing a stock field grade Browning Citori with the Highly Engraved Version of the same gun. It comes to a point where the gun approaches a functional work of art.
