This is an Ames
Sword Company model 1840 Medical Officers sword & scabbard!
Gold plated brass hilt, scabbard throat, mounts & drag.
Hilt has an Acorn pommel cap. an Eagle in the grip, & a
raised MS on the shield langet (for Medical Service). 32"
blade is etched with Ames Sword Co, Eagle with shield, US,
E PLURIBUS UNUM, MS, panoply of Arms & an attractive vine
pattern. It's also set off with a gold wash. Steel scabbard
with removable throat, ornate mounts & drag. This is the current production of this model sword with a retail of over $400. Both re-enactors &
current Military Medical Officers love these swords!
