Seller's Description

Vintage German Made Rohm RG2 Starter's pistol

Welcome! Please click HERE to visit my eBay store! If, with this or any of my items, there is a blue line in the scanned image, disregard it, as it exists only in the demented mind of my scanner. It’s never been the same after that day I spilled a Vodka Collins on it. Also, any fingers shown in the scan of the item are NOT included as part of the sale. (;<)

    This auction is for one vintage German made Rohm RG2 starter's pistol. I bought this pistol new through the mail from an advertiser in Mechanics Illustrated in the late 1950's or early 1960's. I was about 15 at the time. I've also posted a scan of an advertisement from the same time period for the same style pistol, made by a different company. This pistol is used but still operates. The following is text from the outside of the carton and the operator's instructions which were enclosed with these pistols 'way back then;

    The following instructions are transcribed from the 1960 Shooter's Bible.

    ?"The Official Starting Pistol Instructions Caution; do NOT treat the pistol as a toy.On no account point the pistol at anyone when firing, as there is a flash from the blank cartridge through the vent hole. Follow carefully the instructions as to firing given in No. 3 below. ?1. TO REMOVE MAGAZINE FROM PISTOL. Hold pistol, muzzle down, in right hand. Pull down magazine claw which is exposed at the side of the trigger. Press the trigger lightly, and the magazine will fall out. This method should be used when the magazine is empty or loaded. ?2. TO LOAD PISTOL. Having extracted the magazine, insert a starter blank cartridge in each of the six chambers. Hold the pistol upside down and insert the magazine in the front of the pistol. The pistol is now ready for firing. ?3. TO FIRE THE PISTOL. Extend the arm vertically so that the pistol is held above the head at about 60 degrees, to insure that the flash from the vent hole does not come in contact with anyone. When the six cartridges are fired, an extra pull on the trigger will cause the magazine to push open the spring cover at the rear of the body and the magazine can then be removed. If all cartridges have NOT been fired, then the magazine should be removed at No. 1 above. ?TO REMOVE EMPTY CARTRIDGE CASES FROM MAGAZINE. A small lever is fitted in front of the trigger gaurd. Lift this with the finger until the spring plunger clicks into position. The empty cases can be pushed out with the aid of this lever. ?CLEANING. It is essential to clean the magazine and pistol immediately after each use to remove powder fouling. The vent hole particularly must be kept clean. A cleaning brush and a tin of 3-in-1 oil is recommended for claning and lubricating purposes. ?CARTRIDGES. Use only STARTER brand .22 caliber crimped blank cartridges, which are packed in tins containing 100 blanks. Accept only green label STARTER brand blank cartridges. Only when these cartridges are used can we accept responsibility for the pistol. ?WARNING. Although the cartridges are blanks, never point the pistol at anyone, even when it is not loaded, as this is an offense against the law. ?Constant pulling of the trigger when the pistol is not loaded and the magazine is in is laible to damage striker and magazine and render pistol useless. ?Should the pistol jam for any reason when loaded, see that the fingers and face are kept clear of the vent hole, which sould point away from face, whilst freeing the magazine from pistol. ?It is not necessary in MOST states to have a Firearms License to possess this pistol, but it is the BUYER'S responsibility to check local laws before ordering this item.
