Our Assessment: The J.C. Higgins Model 1017 was manufactured by Stevens and is their Model 311 – as sold by Sears during the years in America where gunowning was actually supported, and firearms like this one could be purchased without hassle and used in the field on the same day. This is a very rugged, simple dependable side by side 12 gauge shotgun. It is an excellent choice for the field, especially upland game birds and will even suit your needs as a defense gun or Cowboy Shooting Shotgun.
