Seller's Description

Guns For Sale - WWII Japanese Arisaka Type 38 -- Cavalry Carbine Nagoya 6.5mm Bolt Action Rifle C&R

LSB#: 120309ML25

Make: Nagoya Arsenal

Model: Type 38 Cavalry Carbine, Series 4

Serial Number: 20494

Year of Manufacture: 1933 - 1940

Caliber: 6.5 x 50mm

Action Type: Bolt Action with Box Magazine

Markings: The top of the receiver is marked with a 16 petal chrysanthemum and the Japanese characters for “Type 38”. The left side of the receiver has the series mark for “4”, “20494” and the mark for the Nagoya Arsenal. The bottom of the bayonet lug is marked “17”.

Barrel Length: 19”

Sights / Optics: The gun is mounted with a fixed post front sight, protected by wings. The rear sight is a folding, ladder style sight.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The three piece stocks are wooden. There are signs of a crack repair on the right side by the receiver, and possible fill in what previously were likely gouges. The top of the fore stock has some wood missing at the front. There stocks do not appear to have retained any of the original finish. The LOP measures 13 1/8” from the front of the trigger to the rear of the metal butt plate. The stocks are serviceable, but rate in about Poor - Fair overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: All Original

Bore Condition: The bore shows erosion and fouling and the rifling is worn.

Overall Condition: This carbine retains almost none of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows some rust and pitting, as well as some possible blue touch-up. There are also signs that some of the metal has been aggressively cleaned before the reapplication of blue. The screw heads are mildly distorted but still very serviceable. The markings are clear. Overall, this gun rates in about Fair condition.

Mechanics: The bolt action and trigger function correctly.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None

Our Assessment: This Arisaka appears to have been a war trophy, having it’s mum still intact. The butt plate, sling swivels, sights are present, although the dust cover is missing. The cavalry carbine was intended for use by cavalry, quartermasters and engineers. This is a true piece of WWII memorabilia and a good potential addition to a military rifle collection. br>
