Seller's Description

Guns For Sale - Iver Johnson Champion .410 Ga. -- Top Break Single Shot Shotgun - C&R

LSB#: 120308JW01

Make: Iver Johnson

Model: Champion

Serial Number: 47234

Year of Manufacture: 1900 - 1940

Caliber: .410

Action Type: Lever Actuated Top Break Single Shot Shotgun

Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “-410 GAUGE – BARREL AND LUG FORGED IN ONE- / -PAT’D. JUNE 15 ’15. PAT’S. PENDING-“. The left side of the under lug has what appears to be an “E”. The left side of the receiver is marked “IVER JOHNSON’S / ARMS & CYCLE WORKS / FITCHBURG, MASS. USA / CHAMPION”. The lower tang is marked “47234”.

Barrel Length: This barrel was most likely cut to its present length of 25”.

Choke: The bore of this shotgun barrel measures 0.413” at the muzzle.

Sights / Optics: The gun is mounted with a brass front bead and has a groove in the top of the breach lug and barrel.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The two piece stocks are walnut. The butt stock has a crack at the rear that does not appear to go all the way through. The plastic butt plate is a replacement that has obviously been ground to size and has a third screw hole that is not used. The LOP measures 14” from the trigger to the butt plate. Both the fore arm and butt stock have some dings and scratches . The stocks rate in about Poor - Fair overall condition.

Type of Finish: The barrel is blue and the receiver is case hardened.

Finish Originality: Both the barrel and receiver have been refinished. The metal is smooth and not pitted.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the chamber is clean..

Overall Condition: This gun retains about 85% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows the start of a patina. There is a scratch through the finish on the left side of the barrel below the stamping, which extends onto the receiver for ¼”. The screw head on the rear of the trigger guard has been used but is very serviceable. The markings are clear. Overall, this gun rates in about Fair - Good condition.

Mechanics: The action apparently functions as designed though we have not fired this shotgun.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None

Our Assessment: This shotgun will be used well for teaching the next generation the fundamentals of wing shooting, or pest control. It would also look good hanging over a fireplace ot tucked away somewhere on the boat or in the trunk..

CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This gun is transferable in California.
