Harpers Ferry Model 1842 .69 Caliber Musket
Offered herein is a classic U.S. primary
weapon which, above any other longarm
was a true Civil War issue musket and collectible.
Almost 275,000 U.S. 1842 percussion models were made at the Springfield and Harpers Ferry arsenals. The US Model 1842 Musket was a .69
caliber musket and was the last U.S. smoothbore musket. The Model 1842 was the first U.S. musket to be produced with a percussion lock, though most of the Model 1840 flintlocks ended up being converted to percussion locks before
reaching the field. As a result, at the start of the Civil War, there were many more 1842 muskets in existence in armories North & South and this can be considered as true a Civil War weapon as is the Model 1861 Springfield. This specimen is all original
and in very good to fine condition. The metal shows no rust or pitting. The barrel and lockplate are both dated 1854. The barrel appears to have a coating of lacquer
which has darkened over the years and we have not removed it. The stock appears to have been lightly cleaned with no visible cartouches present anymore.
Stock is sound with no cracks or gouges. In addition,
the musket comes with proper U.S. socket bayonet which has been with the musket for a long time-as evidenced by lack of patina under portion where it sat at muzzle. A very fine Civil War collectible.
