Springfield 1866 .50 Cal Second Allin Conversion Rifle
This is a Springfield Model 1866 .50 Caliber Trapdoor Breechloading or Second Allin Conversion Rifle. This rifle features a distinctive "trap door" breech-loading system designed by Master Armorer Erskine S. Allin. The overall length of the rifle measures 55 1/2”. This rifle is being sold as a "Collector's Item Only or Display Only".
However, with the lockplate, side bolts, and hammer missing we are not 100% sure if it might be for a different model configuration or tell what is the model of this rifle.
This rifle has three barrel bands with three band springs, front sight, rear sight base, buttplate, and trigger assembly. The cleaning rod is not included or available. On the top of the trapdoor is stamped “1866”.
There are many dings, dents, scratches, chips and white paint spots on the wood of the rifle. As well as dings, rust and pitting on the barrel and trapdoor block. Overall, this rifle is in poor to fair used condition, considering its age. Please check the photos below carefully. Sold As-Is.
