Model: Stevens 237, Sears Ranger 101.3

Serial Number: NSN

Year of Manufacture: 1934 - 1939

Markings: The barrel is marked with only “A” and “25”. The left rear of the receiver is marked “Ranger 101.3”. That’s it.

Barrel Length: 26”

Sights / Optics: The gun is mounted with a single silver bead.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are smooth and varnished. There are handling marks and discoloration throughout, as well as a possible refinish. The wood is otherwise free of splits and cracks. The LOP measures 13 3/4” to the end of the buttplate. The stocks rate in about Very Good overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Factory Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright, with just a bit of light fouling. There is no apparent erosion.

Overall Condition: This gun retains about 80% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows scattered edge wear, finish wear, patina and frosting. The gun shows a pleasing aged appearance. The Screw heads are a bit worn, but very serviceable. The markings are clear. Overall, this gun rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions as designed though we have not fired this shotgun.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None

Our Assessment: This a much better gun than most people consider it to be. People have always looked down on the bolt action shotguns – and I’m not sure why. This is a strong, reliable and safe shotgun. The gun can handle 2 ¾” 20 Gauge rounds and boasts the extra safety of a single shot shotgun. Utility and function were obviously the goals with this shotgun.

CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This shotgun can be transferred in California.
