Seller's Description

Guns For Sale - Lefever Arms Co. Model F -- Engraved 16 Ga. SxS Shotgun, 1904 C&R OK

LSB#: 120131MS01

Make: Lefever Arms Co.

Model: Model F

Serial Number: 48849

Year of Manufacture: 1903/1904

Caliber: 16 Gauge

Action Type: Top Break, Side By Side Shotgun

Markings: The bottom of the barrels, the water table, the trigger guard, and the forend metal are all marked “48849”. The side locks are both marked “Lefever Arms Co”. There is an “F” on the water table. The receiver in front of the trigger guard is marked “Patented 1872. / 82.85.86.87.”. These numbers are difficult to read probably due to the finishing.

Barrel Length: 28”

Choke: Both bores measure approx. .630” at the muzzle.

Sights / Optics: The gun is mounted with a full length rib and a bead front sight.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are dark wood. The checkering has become smooth. There is a long crack in the right side of the buttstock, likely from drying out. There is a through crack and distressed wood / missing chip in the bottom of the buttstock wood, behind the trigger guard. The remainder of the wood has many nicks, dings and compression marks. Please see our photos. The LOP measures approx. 14 ¼” from the front of the front trigger to the back of the butt plate. The stocks rate in about Fair - Good overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Unknown. The barrels look original, but the trigger guard is highly polished and there is wear on the lettering in front of the trigger guard. The receiver lettering on the side lock is sharp. Sooo… we don’t know. The hinge end of the forend metal is gray. And yet the bores are bright.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and shiny. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This gun retains about 85% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows general thinning of the barrels and just a few surface scratches. There are some minor nicks on the rib and signs of light age discoloration throughout. The screw heads are sharp and undamaged. The markings are clear. Overall, this gun rates in about Good condition, with much better metal than wood.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this shotgun.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None

Our Assessment: What a great old collector / shooter – a high end, American shotgun, from a well known maker with beautiful engraving. A 16 gauge side by side is the best gun made for upland game and dove. This is a classy old shotgun, with very nice blue and a nice looking and still repairable stock. This gun will still perform for many years to come, and do so with style.

CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This shotgun can be transferred in California.
