Here’s a gun that would make a great project gun. If you wanted to put the time and effort into the gun, it would be a good candidate for restoration. The gun is intact, however there may be some parts missing. If we know of any parts missing, we’ll put that in the description. We did not test-fire the gun, however it cocks and appears to be functional.
This is a Winchester Model 250, which is a short throw lever-action rifle that is chambered in .22 S, L, and LR. This tube-fed rifle has a 20-1/2" barrel. The bore is shiny and in good condition. The rear sight is damaged with a portion of the sight and elevator missing from the gun (see photos)
Blue on the barrel is 80". The blue is worn at the muzzle and the metal is has some surface rust. There is some rust along the barrel with the rust becoming heavy at the breech (see photos). There’s also some rust in the bottom of the magazine tube, just in front of the forend. The finish on the receiver is a bit better at 85%, however there are several scratches and scrapes in the finish with a couple of light gouges in the right-side of the receiver, just above the safety (see photos). Overall the metal is not too bad for a project gun and should clean-up well.
The gun has a checkered stock and forend. There are some dings and divots in the forend and the forend is a bit loose on the gun. The stock has a few more dings and divots than the forend with some scratches in the wood. There are no cracks in the forend or stock. The gun has its original buttplate with a thin-line white spacer. The buttplate has some scuffs and scratches, but no chips or cracks.
As mentioned, we did not
test-fire the gun, however it appears to be fully functional and would make a good project gun for restoration. Serial #309280. STK. #20830.
Clean this one up and replace the rear sight and you’ll have a Saturday afternoon plinker that you won’t mind taking to the woods. You could also spend some time and effort and bring this one back.
