HERE IS A CHANCE FOR A REAL BARGAIN - NO RESERVE - 5 DAYS ONLY - DON'T WAIT TO BID - THIS IS A NICE OLD PIECE IN NEED OF SOME TENDER LOVING CARE - THIS IS AN EARLY 1884 COLT SINGLE ACTION IN 44-40 CAL - 7-1/2" BARREL - 6 SHOT - NO ORIGINAL FACTORY FINISH REMAINS - GRAY GUN WITH RUST BROWNING TURNING PLUMB - SOME PITTING - SOME SCUFFS AND PINGS and SCRATCHES BUT DOES NOT DETRACT FROM DISPLAY - THE CYLINDER SURFACE SHOWS SCRATCHES FROM HAVING BEEN SANDED (see second pic) - ALMOST ALL SCREWS ARE BADLY BUGGERED (see pics) THIS WOULD INDICATE THE GUN HAS BEEN APART MANY TIMES - GRIP FRAME SCREW IS A MISS-MATCHED ELECTRICAL SCREW - BOTTOM OF BARREL IS SCRATCHED AND SCARRED FROM PLIERS BEING USED TO REMOVE STUCK CYLINDER PIN - (NOTE: this is not an original cylinder pin - the original cylinder pin is missing and has been replaced with this "1/4 INCH MACHINE BOLT" THAT HAD ITS THREADS JAMMED INTO THE FRAME (see second pic) - note: FRAME HOLE HAS BEEN SLIGHTLY ENLARGED BECAUSE OF THIS - SERIAL NUMBERS MATCH ON SOME MAJOR PARTS - NO ASS'Y NUMBER ON LOADING GATE - (original gate has been replaced with this more modern one without a number) SN 1044XX - NOTE: SINCE COLT STARTED USING HARD RUBBER EAGLE GRIPS AS STANDARD IN 1882, I'M GUESSING THESE ARE LATER REPLACEMENT WOOD GRIPS - THESE GRIPS HAVE NO "MAJOR" CHIPS OR CRACKS - HOWEVER, THERE IS A "SMALL" CHIP MISSING AT FRONT LEFT SIDE AND A COUPLE OF DENTS AND BRUSES ON BOTH SIDES OF THE GRIPS - ALSO, SOME OLD RED BARN PAINT REMAINS ON THE BOTTOM OF BOTH GRIPS - BORE IS VERY DARK & UNCLEANED WITH TRACES OF RIFLING REMAINING - MAY CLEAN-UP BETTER ? - CYLINDER BORES ARE ALSO DARK AND DIRTY - MECHANICAL CONDITION IS "NOT WORKING PROPERLY" - COCKING THE HAMMER WILL NOT UNLOCK THE CYLINDER FOR LOADING - CYLINDER LOCKING IS VERY "LOOSE" WITH SIGNIFICANT END SHAKE - HAMMER NOTCHES ARE BADLY ALTERED FROM BEING HAND FILED INCORRECTLY - THIS HAMMER IS A CANDIDATE FOR REBUILDING - TRIGGER TIP IS BROKEN OFF AND WON'T HOLD ON FIRST, SECOND, OR THIRD NOTCHES - (note also the improper position of trigger in triggerguard) THE TRIGGER RETURN SPRING AND CYLINDER BOLT SPRINGS ARE BOTH BROKEN - NOT MUCH MORE TO SAY ABOUT THIS CLASSIC - AS WITH THIS AND ALL ALL VINTAGE GUNS, "NOT SOLD FOR SHOOTING" - Please review all the photos carefully and ask all questions prior to bidding so there won't be any surprises - email to buckstix@aol.com - See all my other very rare and collectable shotguns, pistols and rifles, s&w - winchester - colt - german - webley - military.
