You are bidding on a US Springfield Model 1873 45-70 Trapdoor complete with cleaning rod and sling. Mirror bore with good lands, metal has a nice patina, and wood retains a good finish with handling marks. This is out of my personal collection and fully funtional. Questions for Users
(Public)
Q:  Does the barrel have proof marks or inspection marks? Also what year was it manufactured? tks. 02/14/2012
A:  Photo shows barrel proof marks behind rear sight. Looks like a V P and a symbol. Barrel band are marked with a U. Going by serial number, it should be 1874. 02/15/2012

(Public)
Q:  Just to correct you on the serial number and date of manufacture. If the # is in the 160,000-170,000 range, it would be a date of 1880-1881. Alaman 02/16/2012
A:  My rifle's serial# is in the 162,000 range and it sounds as though you know better than I. I found a web site and maybe they aren't as reliable or I made a mistake. Thank you for your input. And yes, still an Antique. 02/19/2012

(Public)
Q:  Is there any history to go with this rifle, also what if any modifications or refinishing has been done? Do all numbers match, if no what doesn't match? 02/26/2012
A:  I don't know that there should be any other numbers but to the receiver. I just bought it a few years ago, reloaded for 45/70 and enjoyed shooting it in a lighter load than modern specs. Thanks 02/26/2012
