Guns For Sale - Sturm, Ruger & Co. -- Super Blackhawk, Old Model, 7 1/2 in .44 Mag., 98%

Super Blackhawk, Old Model-3 Screw, 7 ½ in .44 Mag., 98%

If you have always wanted a really nice Old Model (3 Screw) Ruger Super Blackhawk, take a look at this one.

This Ruger Super Blackhawk with a 7 ½” barrel (SR# 11294), manufactured in 1963, is in excellent condition. There are some little dings on the grips (see photos) and a little blue thinning at the muzzle and leading edges of the cylinder (see photos). It appears it may be unfired or fired very little; there is no telltale discoloration on the face of the cylinder and no imprint around the firing pin. There is a faint turn line. This Ruger has no transfer bar safety. There is no box. We rate this gun at ~98%.

HISTORY

The heavy recoil of the .44 Magnum is a “hand full” with the small grip frame of the Blackhawk revolver so in 1958 Ruger set out to develop a new .44 Magnum revolver to overcome this problem. In addition to the Ruger staff’s work, Bill Ruger received valuable suggestions from Elmer Keith and Herb Glass, both of whom suggested a square-back second Dragoon style grip frame with extra length of grip and extra room behind the trigger guard. A Bisley style wide hammer spur, a wide grooved trigger, a non-fluted cylinder, and larger ejector thumb-piece were additional suggestions. The Super Blackhawk was born in September 1959 with shipments beginning in November 1959. Elmer Keith was reported to have said that the Super was the finest single-action sixgun that he had ever owned. The Super Blackhawk was catalog number S47 with a retail price was $120. The Super Blackhawk was an instant success and is still very popular today. (Credit Bill Hamm for historical data)

BEFORE YOU ASK WHAT THE RESERVE IS, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING…

RESERVE AUCTIONS:

We do not disclose the Reserve on our “RESERVE AUCTIONS” because doing so defeats the purpose of the auction. Disclosing makes it a “Sale”, not an auction, much like a classified listing. Most of the firearms we offer at auction are on consignment with us from one of our clients. Our commitment to our clients is to obtain the highest fair market price possible for their firearms. Thus, we prefer the Reserve Auction and the “HAGGLE” feature offered by Auction Arms. About 50% of our sales are completed via the Haggle. In a Reserve auction if the high bidder does not reach the reserve buy to end the auction the high bidder or the seller may institute what Auction Arms calls a Haggle a one-on-one exchange between buyer and seller to try and come to a mutual agreement on a price. If you are not familiar with the Haggle process, click on Auction Arms “Help & Info” for complete details. For those items that are not on consignment we usually offer a convenient “Buy-It-Now” price.

We are GOLDEN BEAR SERVICES, INC., a Federally Licensed Firearms Dealer in the Denver Metro area. We market exclusively on Auction Arms (since 02-23-1999) and our feedback exceeds 1000 positives. We list on our auctions a variety of offerings including firearms, ammunition, reloading tools & supplies and other accessories we receive from clients who are interested in liquidating their firearms collections. We are also stocking dealers for a variety of “Mil Spec” manufacturers (such as Rock River & STAG) of quality AR15 & AR10 firearms and accessories including Uppers, Lowers, Parts Kits, barrels, stocks, mags, complete firearms and anything else we think you might be interested in. We are also a Davidson’s Gold Dealer. This means that you can buy anything that Davidson’s offers on their website at very attractive prices.
