Here we have a nice old William Muir & Co. .58 caliber Springfield Contract rifled musket. The lock plate is marked William Muir & Co. Windsor Locks, CT. There is the eagle on the lock plate with U.S. underneath, 1864 date on the lock plate as well. There are 2 faint Cartouches on the left side of stock, but not very legible. Wood is in nice shape, has usual dings and dents. Also has a name stamped in the stock, looks like H. Rabey, possibly the owner. The gun is 100% original, but is missing the rear sight. These sights can be bought through Dixie Gun Works for $75.00. Barrel seems smooth with very little pitting. U.S. stamped on the butt plate, and a U stamped on 3 bands. The nipple vent is clear. These are fairly rare muskets, you don't see many Muirs on the market. The gun could be used for shooting, appears to be in mechanically good shape.
