Markings: The bottom of the barrel between the muzzle and the lock is marked “CAI St. Alb. Vt.”. The top of the barrel is marked “Smith & Wesson Springfield Mass. U.S.A. / Patented Feb. 6.06. Sept.14.09. Dec.29.14” and on the left “S.&W. D.A. 45”, and on the right “Smith & Wesson”. The frame under the arbor is marked “24110”, and on the arbor “24110”. The bottom of the barrel and the back of the cylinder and the bottom of the grip strap are marked “191100”. The left side of the grip frame is marked “ 2 2 17 7”, and the right grip frame is marked “U C I B”. The left side of the frame has the S&W logo. The right side of the frame has the Brazilian crest and “1937” and “Made in U.S.A.”. The inside of the right grip is stamped “280779”. The backstrap is marked “9143”.

Sights / Optics: The gun is mounted with a raised blade front sight and a trough rear sight.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are wood with S&W medallions. The grips show much wear and have a few chips; the left grip is missing a small chip at the medallion and the bottom edge of the grip is rough with some small loss. The right grip has a large chip missing at its base. The checkering is smooth. The grips are not original to the gun. The grips rate in about fair overall condition.

Finish Originality: All Original
Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp and deep. There is some mild erosion present in the grooves.
Overall Condition: This gun retains about 60% of its metal finish. There are scattered nicks and dings throughout with some scattered pinprick erosion on both sides of the frame. There is a small area of finish loss between the left grip and the cylinder latch. The backstrap shows a patina with light erosion. The screw heads are in good serviceable condition showing some wear. The markings are clear. Overall, this gun rates in about good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly both single and double action. We did not fire this gun.

Our Assessment: This is a good shootable condition .45 ACP Model of 1917. It is exactly like the U.S. Army models made at the same time period. This should prove to be a good shooter as well as a desirable collectable. Please see page 164 of “The Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson”, by Supica and Nahas for more detail.
CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This handgun can be transferred in California and is C&R eligible and can be transferred as a private party transaction at our shop in Simi Valley.

This gun can only be shipped to an FFL or C&R, and it will be shipped from an FFL. It is your responsibility to ensure that the gun is legal to own and receive in your area. CA Sales tax applies to CA buyers (7.25%).
Layaways are offered on all items, requiring a 20% non refundable down payment within 7 days of the auction’s close and the balance within 60 days. We do not require prior notice to place an item on the layaway. No returns are accepted on layaway items and the item will be considered abandoned after 60 days.
