Model: 1911

Serial Number: 70642

Year of Manufacture: 1914

Caliber: .45 ACP

Action Type: Semi Auto, Single Action

Markings: The right side of the slide is marked “Model Of 1911 U.S. Army”. The left side of the slide is marked “Patented Apr. 20 1897 / Sept. 9 1902. Dec. 19. 1905. Deb. 14. 1911. / Colt’s Pt F.A. Mfg co. / Hartford Ct. U.S.A.”. The left side of the frame is marked “United States Property” and the “WP” inspectors monogram. The right side of the frame is marked “No 70642”. The underside of the frame is marked “A’. The top of the barrel is marked “P / H” and the underside and lug are marked “5” and “J”. The top of the frame, under the slide, is marked “H / R / (3 squares)”.

Barrel Length: 5”

Sights / Optics: The gun is mounted with a fixed front blade and a dovetail set rear notch.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered double diamond wood panels. The checkering is worn and the wood has darkened from handling. The grips rate in about Good overall condition.

Type of Finish: Chemical Blue

Finish Originality: Refinished

Bore Condition: The bore is gray and the rifling is visible. There is a light even layer of erosion in the grooves.

Overall Condition: This gun retains about 85% of its reapplied metal finish. There is moderate erosion and light pitting under the finish. Signs of metal preparation are present where the erosion was cleaned prior to finishing, this is heaviest at the rear of the slide, the erosion is much lighter on the frame than the slide. The vast majority of the modern finish is still retained, with edge and handling wear. The screw heads are a bit worn but serviceable. The markings are all visible, though the inspectors mark is light. Overall, this gun rates in about Fair - Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly though we have not fired the gun.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: One two-tone unmarked magazine is provided.

Our Assessment: This is the best gun ever made – period. The Colt 1911 changed the world as the first military quality mass produced .45 ACP semi -auto pistol adopted by the US government. This is an early WWI gun, manufactured in 1914, with correct magazine and parts. This gun was just poorly stored and then refinished, unfortunate for sure, but it is still a 1914 Colt Model 1911.

CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This gun is C&R eligible and can be transferred in California. This gun can also be transferred as a Private Party Transfer at our shop in Simi Valley.
