NO RESERVE!! Here's an interesting handgun that was one of the first revolvers to fire a self-contained metallic cartridge. Manufactured in Brooklyn, New York, this is a Moore's Patent Firearms "Front Loading Revolver". Because the Smith & Wesson Model 1 rimfire design preceded this gun and S&W owned the patent on bored through cylinders, a completely different cartridge and method of loading the chambers had to be developed. This revolver loads from the front of the cylinder and uses a .32 caliber "teat fire" cartridge that has a conical point toward the rear which contains the primer. When loaded this point (teat) protrudes through a small hole in the rear of the chamber exposing it to the hammer.
Overall condition is very nice and this revolver is in excellent working order. It is factory engraved and still retains a large amount of the original silver plate on the brass frame. All of the original rollmarkings are clearly legible. There is no rust or pitting and all of the various parts have matching numbers. The grips are in very good shape with one small chip missing from the left panel. Mechanically, this revolver is in wonderful shape and everything works perfectly. Perhaps most surprising is the excellent mirror bright bore!
This is one of the earlier, first variation revolvers and was likely made sometime around the close of the Civil War. The Moore Teat-Fire was a very successful and popular weapon during it's short lifetime and was the chief competitor to the Smith & Wesson. The company was eventually purchased by Colt Firearms in 1870.
Buyer pays $20.00 shipping. This is an antique revolver and as such, no FFL is required for transfer and in most areas it can be shipped directly to the winning bidder. There are exceptions (New York City, New Jersey, etc) where an FFL transfer may still be required. Please know your local laws before bidding. Bidder must be a minimum of 21 years old and willing to provide proof of age with payment.
