There is a chip missing from the front right of the wood, which is proud of the nose cap, near the cleaning rod hole, and which does not affect usability of the stock. There is a bit of rust on the rear barrel band. The LOP measures 13 1/8”. The stocks rate in about good overall condition.
Type of Finish: Military Blue.
Finish Originality: Re-Blued
Bore Condition: The bore is clean and the rifling is sharp. There is a bit of erosion towards the muzzle, but this is a very usable bore.
Overall Condition: This gun retains about 90% of its metal re-finish. The balance of the finish shows minor handling marks along the raised edges. The receiver is roughly finished and could be described as bumpy. There is no erosion visible. The screw heads are crudely made, but still servicable. The markings are clear. Overall, this gun rates in about good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this gun.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: A cleaning rod is provided.
Our Assessment: The Mosin Nagant Model 1938 carbine is an historically significant battle rifle which helped end the German threat to the Soviet Union, in the bloodiest single conflict in human history. These rifles, manufactured in the millions, were of a design that could be quickly and easily assembled, readily repaired, and counted on to function in the worst conditions imaginable, far from the tender ministrations of arsenals and gunsmiths. They just plain work! This one is a recent import to the US, has a good bore, and will continue to provide the winning bidder with the tradition of simple, robust, hard-hitting firepower that made the Mosin Nagant a fearsome tool in the hands of the Soviet infantry.
CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This rifle is transferable in California and is C&R eligible.
