There are some minor nicks at the lower right of the muzzle and there is the possible beginning of some frosting on the left side of the frame. There is a bit of wear around the cylinder notches which should be visible in the accompanying photos. There is tarnish on the grip frame which should clean up, together with a couple of tiny indentations on the heel of the grip frame. There is some wear on the barrel wedge and notch. The screw heads show some use, and are completely functional. The markings are clear and sharp. Overall, this gun rates in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, although we have not fired this gun.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.
Our Assessment: One of the powerhouse firearms of the pre-cartridge black powder era, the 3rd Model Dragoon was the last of the true horse pistols manufactured by Colt. The big, beefy cylinder accommodated FIFTY grains of black powder, enough powder to achieve knockdown power unavailable, even with smokeless powder, until well into the 20th Century! Incorporating various improvements and upgrades to the earlier Colt Walker, the Dragoon was a real thumper, reliable, trouble-free, and, most of all, hard-hitting. This 2nd Gen. Colt has the benefits of modern steel and construction, and retains the collectible Colt moniker. While still good looking and collectible, this one shows use, and would make a great shooter as well as a terrific conversation starter. This will be a real treat for the lucky winning bidder.
CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This gun can be sold to anyone 18 years of age with valid state issued ID.
