Good solid original pitted HAMMER from US Civil War Model 1861 Springfield .58 caliber rifled musket. This is the famous hump-back hammer, correct on all US .58 muskets with 5/8 inch wide flat barrel bands, dated 1861-1865. Not correct for the Models 1863-1864 which have slightly narrower rounded bands. Good solid condition, with moderate pitting. Hence the very low price. Not a dug relic. But with pleasing brown patina. Definitely used in the Civil War. Should go on a good lower grade gun with moderate pitting overall. Or- a big man may want to wear this as a distinctive neck chain pendant on his heavy chain. Guaranteed you will get looked at. Much harder to find than the more common Model 1863 hammers. Outstanding opportunity to have this on hand if you handle muskets. Re-list it for MORE if you do pictures. OK to use my Description, as I have only ONE.
