NO RESERVE!! Here's a Winchester Model 1893 pump shotgun. The Model 1893 was Winchester's very first repeating shotgun. Designed for black-powder shells, it was quickly determined that the Model 1893 was a bit too weak for the new smokeless powder shells that were coming into use at the end of the 19th Century. With a few changes, the famous Model 1897 was born and the original Model 1893 quietly slipped into oblivion. It is interesting to note that Winchester placed a recall on the Model 1893 and replaced them at no charge to the original owners with Model 1897's. These recalled 1893's were stripped of useable parts and then destroyed...thus the attrition rate is particularly high for this model and they are not commonly seen.
This shotgun wears a 30-inch barrel and is chambered for 2-5/8" 12-gauge blackpowder shells. Overall condition is rather good for this model and the gun is completely original. There is normal handling wear, some patina, and an area to the right of the muzzle where the blue has been cleaned away...but the orignal finish still rates about 50-60% overall. There is no significant pitting. The stocks are in very good shape and have never been sanded or refinished. Wood to metal fit is factory perfect. There is a tight crack in the underside of the pump handle and one of the three pump handle screws is missing. The gun appears to function fine although I do not recommend shooting it unless you use the exact proper loads! The bore is quite good and is fairly bright with only some very faint shallow freckling that could probably be polished out. The serial number places this old girl in early 1896 production. A really neat old Winchester!
