Rare US 45-70 LOADING & CRIMPING DIE, Field Reload

Rare old original Trapdoor Springfield 45-70 cylindrical LOADING AND CRIMPING DIE, made at Frankford Arsenal, Philadelphia, undated 1883-1885. This was part of a frontier era US Field Reloading Set, for reloading in the field, to make best re-use of ammunition allotments. Measures about 3 + 1/4 inches long by about 1 + 1/8 inch wide. Solid cylinder shape with a 45-70 cartridge shaped hole smoothly bored through + polished. The wider end recessed to allow the cartridge to fit flush. Was used to re-load + crimp the 45-70 cartridge after re-sizing. Marked - LOADING & CRIMPING DIE FRANKFORD ARSENAL Also has - O.M.L. for Maj. Ormond Mitchell Lissak, the gov`t inspector. Guaranteed - OVER 100 YEARS OLD. These were purchased by the famous W. Stokes Kirk of Philadelphia, 1876-1974 in the 1920s. Very good condition. Of high quality Sheffield England rolled steel bar stock, milled + finished at Frankford Arsenal. ADDED PLUS - Part of the original Sheffield foundry bar markings remain - ECIAL + F.
