Rare old original Cylindrical DECAPPING ANVIL, made at Frankford Arsenal, Philadelphia, late 1800s-1906. This was part of a US Field Reloading Kit, for reloading in the field, to make best re-use of ammunition allotments. Measures about 1 + 1/2 inches long by about an inch wide. Top end large enough to admit the base of 30-40 Krag, 30-03 + 30-06 Springfield + .45 Colt cartridges. Not quite wide enough for 45-70, but does 30-40 Krag + 30-30 well. Other end reduced to permit fired primer to be pushed out. Top clearly marked ANVIL with inspector initials. Not marked Frankford Arsenal. Sometimes called a SAFETY SOCKET. Guaranteed - OVER 100 YEARS OLD. These were purchased by the famous W. Stokes Kirk of Philadelphia, 1876-1974 in the 1920s. Good to very good condition. Of high quality Sheffield England rolled steel bar stock, milled + finished at Frankford Arsenal. Outside of cylinder purposely left rough for better finger grip. I bought several of these + other items from the old Reloading Kits, in the early 1970s. Have had them for nearly 40 years. I am listing these few items now on Auctionarms. A rare opportunity for late 1800s - turn of the century military collectors, Krag + i903 Springfield collectors. Also- well suited for use today as a decapping tool base for use with a slender nail or pin punch. Use this to decap while away from home + your reloading press.
