Rare old original Trapdoor Springfield 45-70 Carbine RELOADING PUNCH, made at Frankford Arsenal, Philadelphia, undated 1882-1885. This was part of a frontier era US Field Reloading Set, for reloading 45-70 carbine ammunition in the field, to make best re-use of ammunition allotments. Total measures about 1 + 3/4 inches long. Punch portion just under 1 inch long, + forward end recessed for the round nose bullet. Was used to push in + properly seat the 45-70 carbine bullet into the cartridge case. Marked - F. A. + inspectors initials, O.M.L. AND, has a large C nicely centered. For Carbine cartridges but will also work fine for Rifle. Guaranteed - OVER 100 YEARS OLD. These were purchased by the famous W. Stokes Kirk of Philadelphia, 1876-1974 in the 1920s. Very good condition. Of high quality Sheffield England rolled steel bar stock, milled + finished at Frankford Arsenal. I bought several of these + other items from the old Reloading Kits, in the early 1970s. Have had them for nearly 40 years, I am listing these few items now on Auctionarms.
