This pistol was apparently refinished quite some time ago. The refinishing has rendered the lettering on the slide hard to read. I found the exact piece in Zhuk's "Handguns" book. According to Zhuk the markings on the slide are "JUAN ESPERANZO Y PEDRO UNCETA - GUERNICA (ESPANIA) on the top line and "CAL 765 PISTOLA AUTOMATICA PATENTADA ASTRA MOD 1915 on the second line. It retains about 75% of its' nickel finish. I shot nine rounds through it yesterday and it functions flawlessly. The bore is dark but the rifling is visible and engages the bullet (as can be seen by in the last picture). The is apparently the first pistol to use the ASTRA name. A nice solid old gun.
