Barrel Length: 25 3/4"

Sights / Optics: The gun is mounted with a dovetail set front post sight with a bead and a dovetail set, semi-buckhorn leaf and elevator rear sight.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock(s) is/are smooth wood in practically new condition. There is one small depression in the right wrist of the stock, behind the safety and another on the underside of forearm, about at the rear dovetail.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Factory Original

Bore Condition: The rifling is sharp and bright, though just a bit fouled. There is no visible erosion.

Overall Condition: This gun retains about 98% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows just slight storage marking and evidence of the rarest firing. There are some insignificant marks behind the loading gate, otherwise the only real wear is to the wood. The Screw heads are sharp, though the loading gate screw has been tightened. The markings are crisp. Overall, this gun rates in about excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action Functions well and feels tight though we have not test fired it.

Box & Accessories: The gun comes with its original box, owner's manual and leather butt plate cover.

Our Assessment: This is a nearly new Marlin Lever Action Rifle in one of the most iconic calibers of all time. The octagonal barrel is great, who wouldn’t rather have an octagonal…? The condition is superb. This is the gun you need for your North American Hunting trips, for cowboy long range or just because you don’t have one already.

CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This rifle can be transferred in California.

Questions for Users
Q:  what pray tell is the little plastic wrapped thingey near the rifle in some pics ? 09/01/2011
A:  Hello, Im not sure either... I think it is a trigger lock of sorts, in which case no one needs it... Ha. Good luck, spencer 09/01/2011
Q:  Does this piece have Marlins "Ballard" rifling? Thank you. 09/13/2011
A:  Thank you for your question. We checked the barrel markings and the words Micro Groove are NOT found. The documentation does not mention it either. So, we doubt if this is micro groove, however you might email or phone Marlin if you want to be 100% certain. Thanks. Lew. 09/14/2011
Q:  Thanks for the reply on the possibilty of a micro groove barrel. By the late 1990's Marlin stopped using microgroove barrels on these rifles. Do you have an idea as to the date of manufacture? Thanks. 09/14/2011
A:  Thank you for your question. here is what I got off the web: "Starting in 1973, the year of manufacture maybe determined by subtracting the first two digits of the serial number from 100: Example: SN 2512345 would have been made in 1975 [100 - 25 = 75] and SN 94365295 would have been made in 2006 [ 100 - 94 = 06 (2006) ]." SOOO... maybe your rifle is as new as 2009???. Lew 09/14/2011
