Q:
Does the piece have scope claw mount bases?
Is the rifle barrel 8x57JR (0.318" bore) or JRS (0.323" bore)?

A:
Nope, scopes on a Drilling make about as much sense as teats on a boar hog.
.318 available from S&B. If a 196 gr SP won't kill it, I won't be hunting it with a medium caliber rifle. .323 bullets are generally constructed for bolt action rifles and you cannot push them fast enough in a thin barreled Drilling to open up well. The 196 S&B works just fine within the gun's effective range (150 yards) on medium game. Think of the 160 gr 6.5x55 writ large........

Can you tell me the barrel length, LOP, drop at heel, any engraving?

A:
25.5", 14.5" (front trigger), 2.75" (both LOP and DOH would be less were pad removed)
I am 6', wear a 34.5" sleeve, weigh 200, fits me perfectly ( as does almost any "stock" gun), be it an 870 or M 70.

Q:
I am interested in the gun. Was it made with 2 3/4" chambers or was it modified later? If bought now, it is not available until June 2012?

A:
Thad told me it was built as a 2&3/4" gun and he was the expert. I have fired several boxes of modern Winchester 2&3/4" ammo through it with no drama at all. If you " bought it now", a 10% deposit will hold it for you until 6/2012 when I will be able to final bill you and ship it to you.

Q:
Do you have a pic of the left side of the stock? Is this a right-handed gun as most of them have a cheek piece cut into the wood on the left side for a righty. If it does not have this cheek piece, is the stock neutral or does it have cant in one direction or the other?

|
A:
It is right handed and has a cheekpiece.

Q:
Is this 8mm chambered for the J (.318) or the S (.323) diameter bullet?
|
02/03/2012 |
|
A:
.318, read the first question/answer. Never seen or heard of any Sauer drilling this early set up for .323 bullets, nor would there be any advantage as most if not all current .323 bullets are designed for higher velocity than an 8x57R and expansion would be questionable. The 196 gr S&B softpoint is a sure killer on any lower 48 game. A typical S&B 180 gr 308 Winchester load shoots a 180 gr bullet 2454 fps. The 8x57R shoots a 196 gr bullet 2329 fps. I doubt anything walking on 4 legs would know the difference. Thanks !

Q:
after the initial deposit, are monthly payments required or just the balance by June 2012? This is a fine looking combination gun.
|

|
A:
After the initial deposit, no payments are required until I invoice you for the balance plus shipping and insurance on or about 6/1/2012.
You may make interim payments if you wish.
Thanks for your interest.
