LSB#: 110504RR1
Make: Imported by Navy Arms (We're not sure if this is an ASM, Uberti, Pedersoli, etc.)
Model: 1873 Carbine
Serial Number: 21419
Year of Manufacture: Modern, FFL Required. This is one of the earlier guns brought in by Navy Arms.
Caliber: .44-40, .44 WCF
Action Type: Lever Action Carbine
Markings: The top of the barrel is marked "Navy Arms Co. Ridgefield N.J. Made In Italy". The right side of the barrel is marked "Cal. 44/40". The serial number is on the right side of the frame, followed by what looks like two upside-down F's. There are proof marks on the underside of the frame, behind the wood. One reads "PSF".
Barrel Length: 19"
Sights / Optics: The gun is mounted with a fixed block front sight and a dovetail; set carbine rear sight.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock(s) is/are lightly oiled wood. The wood to metal fit is not great, with the wood slightly undersized at the butt plate and slightly oversized at the forearm. The tangs fit quite well. The wood shows some age discoloration and surface marks, but no splits or cracks.
Type of Finish: Blue
Finish Originality: Factory Original
Bore Condition: The rifling is sharp and deep, the bore is shiny. there is no apparent erosion.
Overall Condition: This gun retains about 80% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows use consistent with Cowboy Action Shooting. There is handling and shooting wear present, as well as evidence of disassembly and reassembly. There are a few scratches on the side plates but otherwise the wear is primarily limited to the butt plate and barrel bands. The Screw heads are mostly sharp, though some show some marring. The markings are clear. Overall, this gun rates in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions as designed though we have not test fired it. It is our understanding that these older imports will not adapt to the newer short-stroke kits that are now available.
Box & Accessories: None
Our Assessment: Here is actually an interesting piece of Cowboy Shooting history. These guns were brought in from Uberti by Navy Arms with the anticipation of sales to Cowboy Shooters. Navy Arms was correct and later became one of the largest importers of these reproduction rifles for sales to Cowboys. This one is in a great cowboy caliber and is ready to go.
