Model 1853 3-Band Enfield Musket. This Enfield rifle pattern 1853 is an example of the type of firearm manufactured in England. It is about 55" overall length with 39" barrel. "Enfield" 1863 stamped on lockplate, Crown at the rear and a small Crown with an arrow pointing down forward on the lockplate, Brass buttplate, trigger guard and nose cap. Inspection stamps on all three barrel bands. The long range rear sight and front sight are present. Slide on rear sight is a replacement. Original ramrod stamped with inspection markings. There are also markings on brass buttplate. Proof marks on the barrel near the breech. Stock is in very good condition with normal handling marks. There are numbers and stampings on the stock but I don't know what they represent. It has what appears to be original sling. Bore is dark and I cannot seeing any rifling due to a poor bore light. I do not know the caliber. Overall condition is very good to fine for its age. I am not an expert on this type of firearm. I purchased it from an estate in Alabama and there was no information available. I have described it the best I can. This type of musket was used by the North and South in the Civil War. I have no idea if it was used in the Civil War but it is a British made musket, not a reproduction. This musket will be available for sale locally so the auction could end early. This is an antique. Please bid accordingly. Due to the size and weight, shipping will be $45.00,insurance included. Please note: If item is not sold at auction, it will not be relisted.
