Model: Little Scout 14 1/2"
Year of Manufacture: Mfg. 1909-36.
Caliber: .22 LR (and shorter)
Action Type: Rolling Block Action
Serial Number: NSNV
Markings: The barrel is marked "J. Stevens Arms Company Chicopee Falls Mass. U.S.A. Little Scout 22-Long Rifle Pat. July 2-07 14 1/2" There is a mark which resembles a ships wheel on the left side of the receiver near the breech and here at the barrel as well.
Barrel Length: 20"
Sights: There is a low blade front sight which is about 3/4" long and 1/8" high attached to the barrel. The rear sight has a dovetail slot with a shallow "V" rear sight.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are low grade but nicely figured walnut with a lot of finish remaining. There are only a few nicks and dings but no major cracks or losses. The fit at the top of the tang is not flush, however it does not appear to have been sanded and this looks like how it left the factory.
Type of Finish: The barrel finish is rust blue with a color case hardened receiver.
Finish Originality: Original
Overall Condition: This gun is in very good condition, while showing use it has not been abused. There is some wear to the barrel at the muzzle end. The case hardening is very visible and is just starting to experience light surface erosion, most noticiable on the bottom of the receiver. The screw heads in the receiver are sharp. The takedown screw shows some disfiguring. Overall, this is a far better than average condition Stevens 14 1/2, in attractive condition.
Bore Condition: The bore is a little gray but has sharp and deep rifling.. The gun would benefit greatly from a good cleaning.
Mechanics: the action functions correctly, the hammer cocks and holds, the rolling block drops and locks up correctly. The takedown functions correctly.
Box: There is no box.
Our Assessment: This is a wonderful entry level .22 for the new shooter or the collector. It is safe, it is functional, it is light and packable. There are many years left in this gun. A handmade leather scabbard is included.
