Description

Seller's Description:
Here is the real thing! A Winchester M-1 carbine with folding steel wire stock and iron buttplate. I beleive this iconic PARATROOPER version is original, not rebuilt. I found no rebuild markings. Experts, authorities and laymen, feel free to correct me on any of this, I am not very knowledgeable about any of the above! .30 caliber, semiautomatic, this fine specimen is marked under the rear adjustable sight "WINCHESTER" and second line is "6489194". On top of the breech is "US CARBINE" and the second line is "CAL. .30 M-1". There is no sling or magazine. Lever safety on the right side of the trigger guard. Pistol grip handle does not match the rest of the wood color. Cheekpad is leather. The bore is bright, the rifleings are there and no pitting I can see. Overall lenght, stock extended, 36" weight, no mag, 6 lbs. I won't ship to CA, and C&R is OK Feel free to request more pics or answers, I will try to deliver. Good luck!

Q:  I'm not a carbine expert but I do know that Winchester did not make paratroopers only Inland did. Hope the info is helpfull. 08/15/2010
A:  Thanks for that info, but the word under the rear sight is WINCHESTER. 08/15/2010

Q:  Trust me NOT an original. Post war rebuild. Maybe Korea. Winchester produced no ORIGINAL M1A1's only Inland did. Nice gun though. Good luck with auction 08/15/2010
A:  Thanks for the info, but my sources state that Winchester produced 828,059. Inland Manufacturing, 2,632,097 Underwood, Elliot Fisher, 545,616 Rock-Ola Manufacturing Corp, 228,500 Quality Hardware Machine Corp,359,666 National Postal Meter, 413,017 IBM, 346,500 and so on. Twelve companies are listed as rebuild sources, none of them Winchester. Credit for the above: Scott, Duff and Ruth 08/15/2010

Q:  Correct! However, the rebuilds were done post war by the armories. They even assembled more stocks from leftover parts and ANY action went in ANY stock. Yours is reparked for sure and a post war rebuild. I've got 11 at home now, both originals and rebuilds. I've sold and refurbished several others. Read Reich's and Harrison's books. They have whole sections about them. Yours appears to be in excellent condition. I'll be interested to see what it goes for! Again, nice gun and good luck with auction. 08/16/2010
A:  Again, thanks for your patience and great information. 08/16/2010

Q:  Hi, in the sixth picture down, is the black line on the right rear side of the stock a crack, or wood grain, or?? Is there anything stamped on the barrel? or in the wood on the bottom of the pistol grip? Thanks. 08/18/2010
A:  Looking at it now after you called my attention to it, my first thought is a crack, re-glued. The more I look at it, woodgrain is a possibility. Stamped in the bottom of the pistol grip is the letters "R I" and directly below them is the numeral "3". 08/18/2010
